FWD: Urgent and Important Message from United Way (Oct. 29, 2013)

The students of Los Angeles urgently need you to take immediate action. Please see the email below from Elise Buik, the CEO of the United Way of Greater LA. I hope you will join us in reaching out to the school board members listed to demand that they keep the proven education reformer John Deasy on board as the district’s superintendent. Together, let’s make a positive difference for the children!

Best,

Dear Friend,
I’m sure you’ve seen the news that LAUSD Superintendent John Deasy – a true champion of
at-risk students and whose leadership has yielded increased test scores and graduation rates – might be resigning. Next Tuesday, October 29, the school board will review Dr. Deasy’s performance.
Reports indicate that Dr. Deasy has felt impeded by a lack of collaborative spirit that has interfered with his ability to make the best decisions for students. United Way believes that collaboration among diverse constituents is the only way to genuinely improve our schools. We also believe that Dr. Deasy is uniquely positioned to continue to elevate student achievement in Los Angeles.
In partnership with many other community, education and civil rights organizations, United Way is petitioning the school board to work collaboratively with Dr. Deasy. In times like this, courageous advocates like Dr. Deasy need support from the broader community – and this is a role that we’re proud to play.
I hope you will join us in reaching out to school board members to share your thoughts. Thank you for your partnership on behalf of Los Angeles’ students.
Sincerely,
Elise Buik
